Nine months ago, I came to the conclusion that I had wasted enough years of my life sitting in front of the television evening after evening watching mindless tv shows and decided to finally become the guitar player I had always wanted to be. I figured that if I had stopped watching so much TV and instead practiced the guitar 30 minutes a night that I would be a pretty good guitar player by now.

So, I purchased a guitar, looked up some guitar tabs on the internet, and went to youtube to be taught by the best. I was pretty amazed at how many songs I could learn on internet and some of the teachers where pretty good. The internet was great, but nothing compared when my brother would sit down in front of me teaching me the chords and little tricks. I may not be the best guitar player at this point, but have learned the basics and have fun each evening after work playing a few of my favorite songs.

Although my vinyl fence installing days are for the most part behind me, I am often asked by friends and co-workers different fence installation questions. One afternoon, I found myself with a little time and I thought of my guitar experience and thought it would be nice if I could refer these friends to some videos on the web so I researched some of the vinyl fence installation videos and found that afternoon to be entertaining at best. Even some pretty reputable companies had installation instructions that I wouldn’t follow in a million years. Most had some good points but were lacking in detail and some were just videos where they showed how easy it was to install a panel but the reality is the way they were installing the fence would be very complicated if you were doing more than one panel. I decided to stick to giving them my standard written instructions and walking them through the installation process in a few minutes.

Installing vinyl fence is much like learning to play the guitar; it can be done on your own, but is best learned when you are taught by a professional. My recommendation is to use the resources provided by the company that you purchase the vinyl fence from, and as much as possible, talk to a vinyl fence installer. They can teach you more in a few minutes then you can learn in hours in the field. Most legitimate companies will make trained installers available throughout your installation.
